Applications to universities are open just as before, though there are some specific changes to be kept in mind.<\/p>\n

The below information gives a bit more information with regards to what to expect in the current situation of quarantine.<\/p>\n

Changes in the University process<\/h2>\n

Remote Teaching<\/u><\/h3>\n

A lot of universities have decided to set up remote learning where possible or necessary, to follow social distancing rules. At the moment, this will only affect the coming year. Hopefully this does not continue next year. Though if it does, students should take that into account when applying for university since they will require a good internet connection to be able to stream lectures or other sessions. Control on unconditional offers<\/u><\/h3>\n

To ensure students continue to attend during Covid-19, some universities had increased the number of unconditional places, which meant that students were forced to make decisions at a disadvantage. The government stepped in. More info here<\/a><\/p>\n

Continuous changes, continuous updates:<\/u><\/h3>\n

Due to the uncertainty, there are continuous updates from universities and other institution in terms of their offered services and changes. Therefore, it is necessary that students continue to check in with universities and also other application serviced for any changes. More info can be found on each university\u2019s websites.<\/p>\n

A-level and GCSE grading<\/u><\/h3>\n

Due to the circumstances this year, alternatives to exams have been arranged, which ensure that applications to university can proceed as normal. The students will be aware of that, though secretaries should be aware of that as well. More info here<\/a><\/p>\n

Digital work experience<\/u><\/h3>\n

Part of university applications is work experience. Currently there are a lot of restrictions on placements. To get around this some places, including hospitals offer online work experiences, such as Brighton & Sussex hospital. It is just matter of finding the right opportunities. InshaAllah issues with applications due to Covid-19 will have eased to a great degree by next year, therefore one option could be to consider a gap year. If it is correctly utilised, it can become an asset during the application process. An application can be deferred until next year, and the free time can we used to strengthen the future application. If your calculated grading is insufficient, this may be a good opportunity to either retake your exams next year or to do supplementary studies to enhance your application next year. Time could be taken out to work on activities related to the projected studies at university or even in helping in some voluntary capacity in the current times. It can demonstrate a can-do attitude and a passion and drive, which will boost the CV.<\/p>\n

BUT, keep in mind this option should not be taken lightly. A gap year should only be taken if students feel that you will make use of the time properly to improve your work.<\/p>\n

Finances<\/h2>\n

Application for student finance are open as before. There was a temporary break in which the SLC team was sorting out their working conditions during the current times, but they are up and running now.
